Mission Outreach Ministry
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come
upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in
all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
At Word of God, our approach to mission and outreach is rooted in Acts 1:8, where Jesus calls His disciples to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and to the ends of the earth.
In obedience to this calling, we commit at least ten percent of our giving to mission and outreach with an additional one percent to mission trips and projects. These funds are divided across three areas of ministry:
Local Ministries — our Jerusalem
National Ministries — our Judea
International Ministries — to the ends of the earth
Other Ministries
National Disaster
Mission Outreach Ministry supports local, regional, and national organizations in response to National Disasters, including Hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Floods.
Mission Trips
Throughout the years Word of God members have participated in Local, National, and International mission trips. To learn more contact a member of the Mission Outreach Ministry.

We answer Christ's call to serve the least among us. Our mission work reaches across neighborhoods and continents, building bridges of faith and compassion.
Mission Statement
The Benevolence, Evangelism, and Stewardship Ministry Team (BES) was established by Word of God Lutheran Church in the fall of 2010. The BES team separated in August 2012 to better serve their visions. The BES team is now known as the Mission Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.) team, Welcome and Evangelism (W.E.) team and Stewardship team. The M.O.M. team vision is to work with world, national and local Christian organizations that support the doctrine of Word of God Lutheran Church. We seek God’s will to give spiritual support, prayer, hands-on aid, and monetary contributions to further God’s Kingdom.
The missions outlined on the mission pages come through the M.O.M. team. Click on one of the links below to see our congregation’s missional focus:

MOM Guidelines
M.O.M. creates an annual budget based on 11% of the Word of God budget. Monthly giving will be allocated to 1% for hands on mission trips and 10% will be given to approved M.O.M. organizations. In order to provide visibility, M.O.M. has instituted a set of guidelines for determining our ministry efforts with our prayers, our hands, and our financial resources. M.O.M. meets at least every other month to discuss and act on recommendations from the team and church members.
Those organizations requesting monetary help will present a clear statement of need as well as meeting these vetting guidelines:
• Christian organization
• Non-profit, 501 c (3) organization
• Been viable for 3+ years
• Listed on Guidestar.org or Charity Navigator (Preferred but not required)
• M.O.M. Team to discuss administration costs to ensure they are aligned with reasonable charitable giving standards
Current M.O.M. Members: Christina Gerling (Chair), Fritz Apfel (Vice Chair), Stanley Fletcher (Financials), Jennifer Griffin, Sue Burnett, Morgan Prillaman, Linda Peterson-Apfel.
